Getting Halal Meals
By the grace of Allah (SWT) we are able to offer Halal meat in the cafeteria. This service took a long time to get here, but alhamdulillah we can now partake in the edible bounties of Allah.
All meat products, chicken and beef, have a Halal certification stamp on the packaging. This meat will also be cooked and prepared in separate pots, pans and deep fryers and with separate cooking utensils.
The procedure to get Halal food is as follows. Bear in mind that at the moment, this feature is only available in Ban Righ, but should expand to other locations as the need arises. Once you come into the cafeteria, first go to the Wok (Stir-Fry station), and ask the chef behind the counter to prepare your halal food of the day. This will take about 5 - 8 minutes. While he or she is making it, you may gather your other food items then pick up your Halal food once it is ready.
We hope that you will find benefit in this new service, and we encourage all of you to take an active step in ensuring that your needs for Halal food are being met. Regular use of this service will ensure that the program expands, offering more variety, better cooking procedures, expansion to other locations (including Leonard, West Campus and places like the JDUC and MacCorry) and an overall betterment in quality of food.
We encourage you to express your appreciation to the chefs and managers of Ban Righ, thanking them for their initiative in providing us with Halal food. This will serve to improve our relations with cafeteria staff, and in turn help us expand the program further.
This program was begun in the Winter term of 2001. It is still relatively new, and so it will take a while before all problems are ironed out. Food may not taste as good as it did back home, but this should not discourage you. Continue to be polite to staff at all times, and always offer words of encouragement.
We ask Allah to help us in this matter, and we thank Him for giving us the opportunity to follow His laws. If you have any questions, concerns, issues or suggestions about this service, please contact one of the Executives and they will contact the necessary individuals.
We also ask that you provide us with feedback about the quality of food and service, and how the program can be improved. Thank you for your patience, and may Allah continue to guide us and shower us all with blessings.
